Amanda vs Lack of Sewjo

Do you ever have those super productive periods where you're on fire (not literally, of course, because I mean- hello? how would you sew?) and everything you touch turns to sewing gold? My stash reorganisation totes inspired one of those- I've been making pieces I am really happy with and even the ones that I was all meh over I've learnt some epic fitting techniques or new skills. So imagine to my surprise that after I finished my awesome leaves Cambie I discovered I have lost my sewjo. I'm not sure where that sucker has gone! Perhaps I left it at a cocktail bar in Sydney, under my desk at work, or even track side at derby... Let me try and chase it down...

Bwah ha ha! See my lame segway into showing you a picture of me skating. I'm so tricky like that! But enough idle chit chat...

I've planned my next project and it's cut out and ready to go. I'm going to attempt a modified Colette Patterns Roobios for a work dress. I'm using some of the gorgeous grey wool with an embroidered pink border print and will be making a lining out of pink polka dotted cotton and some light pink rayon. It's going to be pretty rad.

But I'm not feeling it. This sassy number is going to make a fabulous winter work dress but what the heck was I thinking getting started on it in spring? Duh! So for the first time ever, I'm going to pack a project away and stash it for a few months. This is my first unfinished object and I must admit to being a little scared about this. But I think my sewjo is starting to come back with this plan because I am seeing a cute as a button sundress in my future and it is going to rock!

And on a side note, Canberra is starting to look fabulous as spring sets in. I've started parking 15 minutes away from work so I can enjoy a walk in. So worth it when you get to see early morning balloon rides over a museum.

And even more exciting is husband and I are coming up on our first wedding anniversary. I had a meeting at the museum next to where we got married the other day and decided to take a stroll through the gardens where we got hitched. It's looking so lovely!

But enough digressing... I think it's time to pour a cocktail and start going through my patterns... Let's get sewing!

  1. I've never put anything aside either, I don't know why not, it's silly really, probably a very wise decision. Oh and when you've found your sewjo can you ask if it knows where mine is please? Love your blog, looking forward to a sit down later and a proper nose!

  2. One day you'll find it in your stash, all pre-cut, and you'll be like, "Score!" It will be like finding $5 in the pocket of your winter coat that you haven't worn in seven months. (Does that reference make sense to an Australian?)

  3. Can you please ask your sewjo if it has seen mine anywhere?

  4. It's a truly daunting prospect, Sylky! I'll totes make my sewjo share where yours is- even if I have to stare it down :D

  5. That is such a rad way to look at it, Suzanne! And I so love finding previous winter money in my coats. Sometimes I deliberately leave some in there :D

  6. There is a missing sewjo conspiracy, RTS! I insist we hunt them down STAT!

  7. Haha, I think we all go through bouts of missing sewjo! It's smart that you put it away-- we sew for fun, not as a chore, right?

  8. I so agree, Ginger! I just wasn't feeling the love with this dress. Time for a new project!

  9. Hehe, cool skating picture! I don't think I could even stand up in those things :)
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding anniversary, and have fun with that sundress! Summer is zooming up so fast here in WA!
Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog.

  10. Congrats on one year, and way to know yourself and when to put down the fabric...sometimes when I force myself to sew something I'm not inspired by, things don't go very well :\ That fabric combination does look lovely though!

  11. Great gratuitous skating shot! I know what you mean about sewjo - it comes and goes; usually after a bout of high productivity is when mine goes lol.

It comes back though and in the meantime you can do some wondrous dreaming & planning! ^_^

  13. Thanks, Cindy! I'm thinking this will be a winning combo for next winter. One does not want to rush one's awesomeness ;)

  14. I had to put one in, Symon :D I'm thinking big ideas at the moment- let's see how they all pan out!

  15. I actually bought that border-embroidered wool from Mood after seeing you post it and am so surprised that you see it as pink. I kind of swear it's orange (though I did futz around with my pictures until they matched how it looks in my head---almost neon). Funny, isn't it? Now that you've called it pink, it seems more pink to me.

Happy almost-anniversary and return of the sewjo. (Also, "Almost-Anniversary and the Return of the Sewjo" needs to be the title of something.)

  16. I found you because you commented on my blog and I thank you for that! Love your blog, your humor and the great photos you take. Happy Anniversary and hope the sewjo returns with a vengance! g

  17. Ohh, I must pull the wool back out and take a gander at its orange-ness, Charlotte! I'm all about pink and grey so I kind of default with anything in that colour schema. And thank you!

  19. I definitely have periods where I'm on sewing fire (yes, not literally) and periods where I'm not feeling it. What gets me through is not pushing it and letting myself take a break. Breaks refresh me and get me back into the sewing game better than ever!

  20. It definitely seems to be a trend, Maddy. I've feeling rather sassy after my break and so can't wait to finish my latest project to share!

  21. That's the kind of crazy thing I do too. Start something warm (well, warm for Darwin) right in the build-up ie now ie the hottest, stinky humidest time of the year.

Sounds like you need a new dress for the wedding anniversary?

  22. Does it ever get cold in Darwin, T? I have this bizarre image people where sundresses 365 days!
